Individual Tutoring
In the Learning Resource Center, we offer individual tutoring appointments to help with lower-level Math and Biology. The updated tutoring schedule can be found in the accordion drop down below, along with a link to schedule. You may also email lrc@uno.edu to set up an appointment.
Most sessions will occur online via zoom. To get the most out of your appointment, we recommend joining on a laptop or desktop so you get the maximum benefit from screen sharing capabilities. For students who do not have devices that will allow them to join zoom or have internet connectivity problems, limited in person appointments may be available upon request. Masks and social distancing are required at all times. If you are not feeling well or have been around others who are not well we ask that you do not come to campus.
Tutoring also occurs in other offices on campus. Click below to expand the information for each location.
Online Tutoring
In addition to the many subjects that offer on-campus tutoring, the LRC sponsors online tutoring through NetTutor so students can get help in a wide range of subjects after hours or on weekends and holidays when the campus is closed. Students or limited to 15 hours per semester. You can access NetTutor through Canvas in any of your courses by clicking on the “Student Support Resources” link. See the subjects offered and availability here.
TUTORING SCHEDULE
*Tutoring times are subject to change.
Tutoring takes place across campus in a number of academic areas to help students to succeed in their coursework.
New subjects and additional times may be added throughout the semester, so please check the schedule for the most up to date information.
WHO NEEDS TUTORING?
Tutoring is for everyone! Research unequivocally shows that individualized education, like tutoring, has better outcomes than classroom education alone. Tutoring supports your learning style, provides personalized feedback, and can connect you to a mentor. In short, anyone pursuing an education can benefit from tutoring!
Struggling with an academic concern not covered here? Email lrc@uno.edu or stop by Library 126 and we will do our best to assist you.
LRC TUTORING POLICIES
In the Learning Resource Center, students can make appointments or walk-in for tutoring. Making appointments is preferred, as there may not be a tutor available to see you when you walk in. Tutors can only assist in approved subjects (courses the tutor has already earned an A or B in). Tutoring sessions are 30 minutes in length. If students have a disability and need more time, 60-minute appointments can be made. Students are limited to 3 appointments per week. If students miss appointments without calling or emailing in advance, they may be blocked from making appointments for 2 weeks.
At this time LRC does not have any tutors. lrc@uno.edu.
Tutoring in other departments will have other policies. Please read their posts about their policies.

NEXT SEMESTER
"My SI leader was super understanding and broke everything down without ever being annoyed at us. She would review the same topic as long as we needed until everyone was on board. She told us the most important thing she learned is that you never leave anyone behind. She was completely all about helping us."
Email lrc@uno.edu to schedule an appointment or for remote session times.

supplemental instruction
what is supplemental instruction (si)?
SI is an academic support model developed by Dr. Deanna Martin at the University of Missouri–Kansas City in 1973 that uses peer-assisted study sessions to improve student retention and success within targeted historically difficult courses. The SI program provides peer support by having students who succeeded in traditionally difficult academic courses (e.g., Organic Chemistry, Biology 101, Logic) help other students complete these courses.
the purpose of supplemental instruction is...
1.
To increase retention within targeted historically difficult courses
2.
To improve student grades in targeted historically difficult courses
3.
To increase the graduation rates of students
SI is a free service offered to all students in a targeted course. All students are encouraged to attend SI sessions, as it is a voluntary program. Students with varying levels of academic preparedness and diverse backgrounds participate

ONLINE TUTORING
UNO LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER OFFERING ONLINE TUTORING
Sometimes it feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day. Between work, school, and extracurricular activities, you may think you don’t have the time for tutoring, or the only extra time you have is too late in the day to meet with a tutor.
We’re happy to offer you online tutoring through NetTutor! Covering a number of different topics, this online tutoring can help you pass your classes AND work around your busy schedule. Also, you’ll find a list of apps and online tools to help you with your coursework.
WHAT IS NET TUTOR?
NetTutor is an online tutoring platform that connects students with the academic support they need from experienced and qualified tutors. Tutoring is facilitated with an online whiteboard and is easy-to use. You are able to type, draw, and use symbols specific to the subject on the online whiteboard. Your tutor will be able to correspond with you and help you when you get stuck.
WHO CAN USE NET TUTOR?
At this time, NetTutor is available free to all UNO students. Students get 15 hours free per semester.
WHO WILL BE TUTORING ME?
Your tutors have a bachelor’s degree, and most have an advanced degree in their subject specialty. All tutors have teaching and tutoring experience and are trained in cutting edge teaching and tutoring methods. You will find that the tutors through NetTutor are empathetic, patient, and supportive, and that they connect with you in a meaningful way to ensure that you succeed.
HOW DO I ACCESS NET TUTOR?
You can access NetTutor through Canvas in any of your courses by clicking on the "Net Tutor" link in the left Course Navigation bar. Once you see that, you should be able to easily connect with a tutor. For trouble with access, contact the Learning Resource Center (lrc@uno.edu).
WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU OFFER TUTORING IN?
There are a wide variety of subjects available. Check the chart below to see if your course is currently offered.
ACCESS NET TUTOR
You can access NetTutor through Canvas in any of your courses by clicking on the "Net Tutor" link in the left Course Navigation bar.
The NetTutor subjects will come up. Click on the subject that you need help in.
Three options will be presented to you: (1) Ask Net Tutor, which is live one-on-one help, (2) Q & A Center, where you can drop off a question and get a response from a tutor, and (3) My Tutorial Archive, where you can view previous sessions or answered questions.
If no tutors are currently available, you will be able to view the schedule to see when tutors will be online next by clicking “View Schedule.”
Live one-on-one tutoring and the Q & A Center uses an online whiteboard. In the whiteboard, you can type, draw, enter symbols, pictures, and more. There is a chat feature on the side where you and your tutor can talk. If you have a disability that requires text-to-speech software, the online whiteboard may not be compatible with your software. Contact M. Shannon Williamson and she can set your account to accessibility mode.

Foreign Language
The Foreign Languages Lab is located in the Liberal Arts building, room 350, and is managed by the Foreign Languages Department. In the Foreign Languages Lab, a student taking French or Spanish can obtain assistance from peer tutors or use it as a quiet space to study and do homework. Worksheets, dictionaries, and computer software programs are also available for use in the lab.
Of interest to students at all levels is the computer room. The available software is varied in type and level. It is our intention to sample the various software programs on the market in the languages which we teach, and to expand this facility according to utilization, hopefully leading to a full, computer-equipped laboratory. This facility is presently small and is not available for uses beyond foreign language purposes.
HOURS
Spanish Tutoring is offered by appointment only, in person and via Zoom.
