The Academic Year Abroad program, open to students from all accredited U.S. universities, is available for a semester or full academic year. Academic credit is fully transferable through the University of New Orleans, who will provide the official transcript. No prior knowledge of German is required; we offer custom-tailored curricula for students at any level of German. Internship opportunities are available. For financial aid options, please contact the program administration.
The program was founded in 1998 and has enrolled well over 200 students from many different universities. Aside from our partner schools – Lousiana State University, Michigan State University, and Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN – students have come from Harvard, University of Colorado, University of Vermont, Penn State, University of Georgia, and many more. Each year, the cohort of students is comprised of about 8-12 students, with the majority attending the spring semester only, due to semester dates conflicting with the US calendar. The range of majors that can be accommodated in this program is very large, including Humanities, Business Studies, Sciences, and Engineering/Technical Sciences.
“The Innsbruck AYA program definitely changed my life. I learned German and now feel even confident enough to make a joke in a foreign language. Neither words nor dollar signs can put a value on this investment.” Amanda McGilvray, AYA Alumna
