Robert Dupont brings a wide range of interests and experience to his position in the department. His academic career at UNO began as a research associate with the School of Urban and Regional Studies. For many years, he served as a UNO administrator in continuing education and with the university's central administration. His administrative specialties included development of adult education programs, budgeting, strategic planning and international education. He returned to the classroom in 2007 and wrote On Higher Ground: The University of New Orleans at 50 to commemorate UNO's 50th anniversary. His academic work focuses on the dynamics of urban history, especially the development of public works during the progressive era. He recently contributed a chapter on New Orleans to Globalization and the City: Two Connected Phenomena in Past and Present. He is currently leading a project to produce an encyclopedia of New Orleans for the city's 300th anniversary in 2018.
