Florent "Danny" Retz is an Artist in Residence for Post Production. Mr. Retz is a native New Orleanian with 33 years experience in the motion picture industry in Hollywood and Louisiana. Upon completion of his military service, including one tour of duty in Vietnam, Mr. Retz entered Loyola University, earning a B.A. degree in Communications in 1974. After spending a year as an event coordinator at the Louisiana Superdome, Mr. Retz moved to Los Angeles, finding steady employment as an editor/assistant editor with every major studio and numerous independent production companies for the next 30 years (1976-2005).
In 2005 Mr. Retz moved back home with his wife and their 4 children to become part of the movie industry in Louisiana. When the position of Artist in Residence was created at the University of New Orleans in 2008, Mr. Retz recognized an opportunity to share with future filmmakers the knowledge he had accumulated over the span of three decades. He has never regretted his decision.
His credits include RoboCop, Cutthroat Island, Total Recall, The Substitute 3, The Shooting Gallery, and Harold and Kumar II.
