John C. Gardner, Ph.D., is the KPMG Professor of Accounting in the Department of Accounting at the University of New Orleans. He joined the faculty in 2004 and served as Dean of the College of Business Administration from 2004-2007. Dr. Gardner relocated from Michigan where he served as Dean of the School of Business Administration at Oakland University for eight years. During his tenure at Oakland, he was instrumental in establishing programmatic partnerships with the corporate community including the Applied Technology in Business (ATIB) program, in which corporations partner with the School by providing scholarships and internships for undergraduate students in the program who, in turn, complete IT projects for the companies. He was also responsible for establishing a post-masters certificate program at Chrysler Corporation, an Executive MBA in Healthcare Management and a Masters in Management of Information Technology.
Prior to joining Oakland University, Dr. Gardner served as the Associate Dean and Director of Undergraduate Programs at Binghamton University and held the Price Waterhouse Professor of Accounting. He was also on the faculty at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Gardner has published in leading academic journals in accounting finance and management science including the Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Research, and Decision Sciences.
