Dr. Edit Kaminsky Bourgeois, is currently the (Interim) Associate Dean of the Dr. Robert A. Savoie College of Engineering and the Huntington-Ingalls, Inc. Endowed Professor of Engineering at the University of New Orleans; she is also a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. Edit chaired the Electrical Engineering department from 2008 to 2012.
Before joining UNO in 1995, Dr. Bourgeois worked at Sverdrup Technologies and Lockheed Martin at Stennis Space Center, MS. She received the Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Tulane University in 1991, and 1987, respectively, and her BSEE, summa cum laude, from Universidad Autónoma de Centro América in 1986. Her current research interests include a variety of digital communication problems including modern wireless systems and multidimensional modulation and coding.
Dr. Bourgeois is a Senior member of the IEEE, ASEE, SWE, AAUW, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu. She has authored about 100 papers and reports, received numerous research grants, and advised many M.S. and Ph.D. students. Edit is an active member of the IEEE in both MGA and TAC, having served on many boards and committees as member or chair at many levels.
Dr. Bourgeois course development efforts span the introduction of project-based laboratory development for required courses such as electronics labs back in the late 90’s, through re-designing the senior design capstone project to design, build, test and compete a road-worthy Sunrayce solar car, to inclusion of current 4G LTE/5G topics in a new course entitled Modern Wireless Communications. Edit has been honored by students and by the IEEE multiple times for excellence in teaching and education, from her first days as assistant professor to the present.
